Apple's social network is failing again
According to the US technology news website AppleInsider, musicians on the Apple Music platform have been notified that they will no longer be able to post new content to Connect from Thursday. "Connect" is the blog's blog-style social platform for music artists to strengthen their connections with fans.
According to Apple, all existing "connected" content will continue to appear in the search until May 24 next year. At the same time, the company is removing the "Connect" service post from the artist profile page and the Apple Music "Service for You" section.
When Apple Music was launched in June 2015, the "Connect" section and other products were heavily promoted by Apple, and many musicians quickly used the service.
However, the interest of artists and the public in publishing content on “connected” is rapidly diminishing. In some cases, on the “connected” pages of many music artists, there is only commercial content about the release of music works, and no more content. .
In an open letter to music artists, Apple said that the purpose of turning off "connected" social features is to make the process of discovering music easier.
The letter reads: "This means that from December 13, 2018, you will no longer be able to post to the connection, but all previously uploaded content will still be searchable until May 24, 2019."
"Connect" is Apple's second failed attempt on music-based social media.
In 2010, the company launched Ping, which is like “connecting,” a product that lets consumers focus on their favorite artists. People can also learn about what music and concerts their friends are interested in and share their thoughts online.
However, this service has been criticized from the beginning, because music artists and consumers need to approve each fan follower. In addition, the integration with the Facebook platform was defeated before the product was released. To make matters worse, the service was initially bombarded with spam and fake accounts.
Ping eventually achieved integration with another social networking site, but the lower usage rate eventually led Apple to discontinue the product in September 2012.
According to foreign media reports, as music artists gradually lost interest in the "connect" function of Apple Music, Apple also made adjustments. For example, in 2016, Apple removed the "Connected" special label from the Apple Music app. And put the artist's post at the bottom of the "Service for You" section of the client.
